Peter David Phillips MP
Political Career: He has served as MP for St Andrew East Central (1994 to present) and Leader of the Opposition from April 2017 to November 2020. He served as Minister of Finance and Planning (2012 to 2016), Minister of Transport and Works (1998 to 2001), Minister of National Security (2001-2007), Minister of Health (1995 and 1997), Minister of Special Projects in the Office of the Prime Minister (1991-1994) and Senator and Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister between 1989-1991.
Civic Duties: Dr. Phillips received the 2015 Man of the Year award by the Gleaner newspaper, bestowed for exemplary public service.
Profession: Former Lecturer in the Department of Government and the Consortium Graduate School at the University of the West Indies, who has published extensively on a variety of Caribbean development issues.
Education: A graduate of Jamaica College, The University of the West Indies (Bachelor of Science in Economics as well as a Master of Science in Government), State University of New York at Binghamton (Ph.D, International Political Economy) and a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship.
